EPSA Area E is located onshore in Libya's Murzuq basin 65 kilometres south-west of the El Sharara development. The Elephant field was discovered in 1997 by London and Scotland Marine Oil (LASMO) before it was acquired by Eni in 2001. The giant discovery rejuvenated exploration interest in the Murzuq Basin in the late 1990s.
