ExxonMobil has a long-held position in the Gulf Coast region of the onshore US. That position was bolstered in 2010 with the purchase of XTO Energy, a large independent E&P company with substantial unconventional gas assets in the Gulf Coast region. ExxonMobil's has extensive legacy conventional assets, along with positions in the Eagle Ford, Haynesville, and Barnett shale plays.
