Faghur Basin Fields

Faghur Basin Fields

Report summary

The Faghur Basin Fields are located onshore on the Siwa and West Kalabsha blocks in the Western Desert. The Faghur field was discovered on the West Kalabsha block in 2006 with the Faghur-1 exploration well. The well was sidetracked and brought onstream in the same year, demonstrating the short lead times in the region. The blocks are currently operated by the Khalda Oil Company, a joint venture operating company owned by EGPC, Apache and Sinopec. Associated gas could be tied in to gathering facilities at Kalabsha, however we understand that there are no plans to develop the gas. This is due to processing capacity being constrained to around 900 mmcfd in the Western Desert. Plans to construct a fifth processing train at Salam have not materialised and may be contingent on Apache securing a higher gas price.
