Report summary

The Galata gas field was the first field to be developed in the Bulgarian Black Sea. Discovered in 1993 by a Texaco-headed consortium, the field was not considered material enough to warrant a development. It was not until 1998, when UK-based Melrose Resources (now Petroceltic) entered block 91-III, that the field was developed.The Galata reservoirs are Upper Cretaceous to Palaeocene carbonates.
