Mailisu IV and East Izbaskent are located in the Fergana basin, next to the border with Uzbekistan. They are the largest fields in Kyrgyzstan and accounted for 90% of the country's total oil and gas output in Soviet times. Although production has fallen dramatically, they still represented more than half of the country's total ouput in 2015.State-owned Kyrgyzneftegaz has engaged a number of foreign contractors, including Petrofac, to improve production rates since the mid-1990s.
