Malai Area
Report summary
The state-owned Malai Area is one of the most important sources of gas supply in east Turkmenistan. Since 2009, it has been connected to the Turkmenistan-China Gas Pipeline.The main deposits – Malai and Chartak – have been onstream since the 1980-90s and are now highly mature. The neighbouring Tadzhibai discovery was made in 2019 and started producing soon after. Aggregate gas output peaked at more than 800 mmcfd in 2002 and is currently less than half this level.
