Report summary
The Obaiyed gas and condensate fields are located in the Western Desert, 35 kilometres southwest of the coastal city of Matruh. Shell was awarded the Obaiyed exploration licence in 1989. The main Obaiyed field was discovered in 1994 and is the largest onshore gas field in Egypt. The fields are operated by a Cheiron/Capricorn consortium.
