The onshore Ibigwe marginal field is in OML 16 in the eastern Niger Delta. Shell discovered the field in 1965 and produced it from 1971 to 1989. In 2003, Ibigwe was included in a marginal field licensing round and was awarded to Walter Smith Petroman and Morris Petroleum.Ibigwe was re-started in 2008 via an Early Production Facility (EPF), becoming the first of the 2003 round marginal fields onstream.
