Qatar unveils plans for 30% increase in LNG capacity
This report is currently unavailable
Report summary
Qatar Petroleum has announced plans to double output at a new North Field development from 2 to 4 bcfd. The new gas will be exported as LNG, with first cargoes to be shipped in 5 to 7 years, bringing Qatar's total export capacity to 100 mmtpa. Creating capacity will require debottlenecking and expanding existing trains, as well as the installation of new trains. With current industry costs low, and Iran boosting production from South Pars, the timing is good to make this announcement. Qatar is also keen to show it is welcoming investment despite the current diplomatic tension with other GCC states.
