The Rimu, Kauri, and Manutahi oil and gas fields are on the south side of the Taranaki peninsular, close to the town of Hawera. The fields were discovered by Swift Energy during 1999-2001. Production from Rimu and Manutahi commenced in 2002 and Kauri in 2003. Oil production from the development peaked in 2004 at approximately 930 b/d and has been below 500 b/d since 2007. Gas production peaked in 2005 at approximately 15.2 mmcfd.
