Today, its onshore areas of focus are within the Permian Basin of West Texas and the Marcellus and Utica shales in the Appalachian Basin. The company's Northeast position was established through Shell's corporate acquisition of US private operator East Resources, which closed in July 2010, and enhanced through its merger with BG which closed in early 2016.
