The Shewashan field is located on the Khalakan block in the Kurdistan Region of Iraq, around 75 kilometres southeast of Erbil. The licence is operated by Gas Plus Khalakan, a joint venture between NewAge and Range Energy Resources. The field was discovered in Q2 2014 and was brought onstream in April 2016. The field's first development phase has a capacity of 10,000 b/d through an early processing facility (EPF) and four development wells. Production was expected to ramp-up to 10,000 b/d in 2018 but poor reservoir performance has prevented this. The partners initially planned to expand capacity to 30,000 b/d. Shewashan crude is light (46° API gravity), which will make it desirable to sellers on the domestic market and for inclusion in the export blend.
