The South East El Mansoura block is located in the Nile Delta around fifty kilometres north of Cairo. Merlon Petroleum and Melrose Resources were awarded the block in the 2004 EGPC Exploration Bid Round. The award was ratified in August 2005 and became effective in January 2006. Melrose Resources became operator following its acquisition of Merlon Petroleum in June 2006. Following a merger in 2012, Petroceltic became operator of the block. The operator drilled eight wells in the first exploration phase, making three gas/condensate discoveries. All three fields were brought onstream via their respective discovery wells and tied in quickly, at low cost to existing facilities and infrastructure in the El Mansoura block. Gas and condensate from the fields are transported via pipeline to Petroceltic's El Mansoura facilities to the north and onwards into the national grid.
