Suncor acquires additional 5% stake in Syncrude from JX Nippon for US$730 million
Report summary
Suncor Energy has further increased its stake in the Syncrude Project. On 12 February 2018, the company announced that it had acquired 5% of the project from JX Nippon O&G Exploration (via its subsidiary Mocal Energy) for US$730 million (Cdn$920 million). The transaction increases Suncor's share in the project to 58.74% and marks the exit of JX Nippon from the project.
