Suplacu de Barcau is a shallow heavy oil field in the northeast of the Pannonian Basin. It is one of the oldest and largest examples of in situ combustion (ISC) production in the world. The field was brought onstream in 1961 initially using conventional methods. However early results were disappointing and a pilot steam drive (SD) and ISC programme was implemented.
