The West Bakr area comprises three separate oil fields (West Bakr H, K and M) in the Eastern Desert, 20 kilometres west of the Gulf of Suez coast. The field have produced less than 6, 000 b/d since the early eighties. TransGlobe Energy operates the fields with a 100% interest. The fields produce crude oil with gravity ranging from 15-20°API, mainly under primary recovery with the aid of down-hole pumps. The operator is implementing water flooding on the K field and it is thought that this could also be applied to the M field. Oil is processed on the fields and transported by pipeline to the GPC operated Bakr Oil terminal and onto the Ras Gharib terminal where it is exported as part of the Ras Gharib blend.
