This month a number of major mining companies, including BHP Billiton and Rio Tinto, have continued to streamline their portfolios and focus their activities in “core” commodities and regions ; in a similar vein, several high profile projects have started production. The Ebola outbreak in Western Africa is starting to take it's toll on the mining industry, with ArcelorMittal declaring force majeure and evacuating their Liberian operations.
