Report summary

From 1926 to 1929 St. Joe Resources experimented with a new process for the production of zinc oxide, an electric current being passed through a mixture of coke and zinc sinter, zinc vapour being produced and then burned.  The process was called the "electrothermic process."  A plant was commissioned at Monaca in 1931 (Zinc Corporation of America – ZCA).  In 1936 a process was added which condensed the zinc in molten zinc, so permitting the production of slab zinc, prior to this the output...
