Dr. David Burns is Vice President of Clean Energy at Linde. Prior to this, Dr. Burns served as Vice President for Hydrogen and Syngas Global Business Development. Dr. Burns joined Linde (formerly Praxair) in 2005 and, since then, has made significant contributions to the development of new business in the hydrogen and energy industries globally. Prior to Linde, Dr. Burns worked at Dow Chemical, where he held several business management roles. Dr. Burns has a B.Sc. and Ph.D. in chemical engineering from the University of Leeds in the UK and an MBA from the University of Texas at Austin.

Hector Arreola

Principal Analyst, Hydrogen & Derivatives

Hector is a hydrogen-focused senior research analyst within Wood Mackenzie’s Energy Transition Practice. Hector is responsible for building asset valuation models, interpreting policies, developing long-term demand and supply outlooks, and conducting price analyses to enable the adoption of low-carbon technologies across different sectors and markets.​ Before his current role, Hector participated in and led numerous consulting projects across the energy spectrum with an extensive focus on Energy Transition and decarbonization strategies and initiatives. ​ His project experience includes commercial due diligence for hydrogen production and infrastructure, energy transition scenarios and risk analysis, market studies and competitiveness analysis under different energy transition scenarios, and facilitating corporate strategies related to carbon emissions.​ Hector holds an MS in Energy Finance and Economics from The University of Texas at Austin and obtained his BS as Chemical Engineer from Tec de Monterrey (ITESM). He is based in Wood Mackenzie's Houston office and is fluent in both Spanish and English.

Aminta Hall

Mhairidh Evans

Mhairidh leads our global research on carbon capture, utilisation and storage (CCUS). Her team provide insight and strategic analysis on the CCUS landscape to project developers, technology providers, investors and governments. Her work includes cost assessments, economic modelling, market and policy tracking. Mhairidh previously spent seven years as a lead analyst in our upstream oil and gas division, focusing on the offshore supply chain and the North Sea region. Before joining Wood Mackenzie in 2014, she spent six years in commercial and project management roles in the subsea oil and gas sector. Mhairidh is an alumni of Scotland’s Future Industry Leaders Programme and enjoys engaging with the wider industry.

Melany Vargas

Melany leads the Global Hydrogen Consulting Practice at Wood Mackenzie. She has supported a number of established energy companies and new developers as they grow their footprint in or enter low-carbon H2 markets, including developing market entry strategies, screening for regions and opportunities, developing analysis and reports for policy and regulatory advocacy, and performing commercial due diligence and capital raise efforts across the hydrogen value chain. She has also supported the development of Wood Mackenzie’s proprietary hydrogen modelling capabilities across low-carbon hydrogen supply, demand and technoeconomic analysis. Melany has extensive experience solving strategic problems for clients across the energy value chain, including oilfield service companies, E&Ps, IOCs, gas and NGL infrastructure and logistics, chemicals, utilities and mining. Since 2015, she has focused her career on applying her deep expertise in fossil fuel value chains to solving Energy Transition issues, and supporting clients as they evaluate the technologies needed to achieve decarbonization targets. Prior to joining Wood Mackenzie, Melany worked in Accenture’s Energy Strategy practice in Houston. In 2016, she was selected to serve as the project manager and lead author for the World Energy Council’s World Energy Scenarios 2060 (published in 2016), a process that involved engagement with senior executives and policy stakeholders across all regions and parts of the energy value chain and evaluated a broad spectrum of potentially disruptive technologies. She is also currently working on a hydrogen study for the DOE on behalf of the National Petroleum Council, leading the Task Group on Integrative Economics and partnering with MIT on the modelling efforts required for all chapters of the study. Melany holds a Master of International Affairs degree from Columbia University’s School of International and Public Affairs with a speciality in Energy Management and Policy. She also holds a Bachelor of Science degree in Mechanical Engineering from The University of Maryland.

Laura Cross

Director of Market Intelligence

IFA - International Fertilizer Association

Laura Cross is Director of Market Intelligence at IFA, and oversees the activities of the Market Intelligence Service, which provides authoritative information on supply, demand and trade of fertilizers and fertilizer raw materials, and monitors developments impacting the outlook for fertilizer markets. This work is regularly used to set the scene for high-level discussions on fertilizers and food security. IFA is the only global fertilizer association, representing more than 400 members from across the fertilizer value chain – from producers, traders and distributors through to service providers, research organisations and NGOs. IFA’s mission is to help feed the world sustainably. Laura joined IFA in March 2021, and previously spent 10 years analyzing and forecasting fertilizer markets at CRU Group and Integer Research. Laura has a BSc in Physical Geography from King’s College London, UK and is a recent graduate of the Women’s Leadership Development Programme at the University of Oxford’s Saïd Business School.

Sébastien Paillat

Sébastien Paillat has 20 years of experience in M&A, investment, venture capital, asset management and project finance, with approx. 50 transactions led and closed. Before joining FiveT Hydrogen and Hy24, he spent 11 years at Air Liquide group. First as an M&A senior manager for the Group, executing and closing approx. 30 small to midcap transactions worldwide, within the industrial gas world, with a focus on innovative fields (biogas, hydrogen, technologies, advanced electronic materials). Then he was in charge of investments and asset management in the hydrogen field, for Air Liquide hydrogen energy world business line and ALIAD venture capital arm. He had board seat representations in three companies, as well as an operational deputy general management role in one hydrogen asset company, in charge of financing, fundraising and M&A. Previously he spent 8 years in Investment Banking for Lazard, UBS and Barclays, advising for mid to large-cap transactions - M&A, leveraged finance and ECM. He was mainly involved in the following sectors: Global Industries, Utilities & Infrastructure, Telecoms, and Financial Sponsors. He started his career with a focus on project finance and acquisition finance in telecom infrastructures. Sébastien Paillat is one of the Co-Founders of FiveT Hydrogen, and Managing Director – Head of Investments at Hy24, a joint venture between FiveT Hydrogen and Ardian, which is today the world’s largest investment manager dedicated to investing in the entire value chain of clean hydrogen, from upstream to downstream applications, thus ambitioning to scale up the clean hydrogen economy. Hy24 manages the firstof-its-kind Fund: ‘The Clean H2 Infra Fund’ which is today up and running with €2 billion of allocations.

André Pina

Associate Director, Hydrogen Strategy & Origination

André is currently the Associated Director for H2 strategy and origination at EDP, supporting the definition of key markets, geographies and opportunities. Previously he was at the Energy Planning Department of EDP, focusing on assessing the implications on EDP’s business of the long-term evolution of energy systems, energy policies and innovative technologies such as new storage systems and hydrogen. He has a M.Sc. in Physics Engineering and a Ph.D. in Sustainable Energy Systems from Instituto Superior Técnico, within the MIT Portugal Program.

Will Lochhead

Deputy Director, Head of Hydrogen Production and Storage Business Models

Department for Energy Security and Net Zero

Will is a Deputy Director within the Department for Energy Security and Net Zero’s Hydrogen and Industrial Carbon Capture Directorate. He has led, for the last three years, a team designing and implementing the Hydrogen Production Business Model, the Hydrogen Storage Business Model and is also responsible for business models to bring forward industrial carbon capture and waste CCUS projects. His team leads the design and negotiations for allocating business model contracts to projects. Will previously led CCUS Policy (2015-20) within Government and before that the regulatory structure of the Capacity Market. Will has also held roles in Defra and the Cabinet Office.

Jonathan Sultoon

Head of Markets & Transitions, Energy Transition Practice

Jonathan has over 20 years of experience leading analysis for global energy markets, including power, coal, gas, LNG, renewables, hydrogen and CCUS. Claude Mourey

Claude is the Director of Wood Mackenzie’s Hydrogen and New Energies practice for EMEA; she is based in Dubai. Prior to joining Wood Mackenzie, Claude worked at Total, Schlumberger and Maersk where she worked in strategic investments in the hydrogen and CCUS sectors. She spent 20 years working in the Middle East, Africa and Asia for energy companies both as an operator and as a consultant. Claude has a deep understanding of energy transition challenges. She advises energy companies, resource holders and financial institutions in developing strategies and capital projects involving hydrogen and ammonia to decarbonise energy value chains.

Andy Lane

Andy Lane joined BP in 1986 and has worked in a variety of technical and commercial roles in the Exploration and Production, Gas and Power and the Trading parts of the company in the UK North Sea, Alaska and Australia. Since returning to the UK Andy has been responsible for business development across all bp’s Upstream gas businesses. Andy currently leads BP’s Hydrogen and CCS development work on the UK aiming to create the first CCS and Hydrogen enabled industrial cluster in the UK.

Akshay Bhardwaj

Akshay Bhardwaj currently heads the Commercial Business Development function for Global Ammonia at OCI Global. His responsibility includes commercialization of ~ 2.3 million tonne per annum sustainable ammonia portfolio globally – blue, green and bio-ammonia. Before OCI Global, Akshay led the Green Hydrogen/Green Ammonia BU for ACME Group (one of India’s largest RE IPPs). He was responsible for project development & commercializing ~ 1.2 MTPA green ammonia project at Port of Duqm, Oman with total offtake contract value > USD 8 billion. Similarly, he commercialized world’s first integrated green hydrogen & green ammonia project in India, producing - 1 TPD green hydrogen & 5 TPD green ammonia. Previously, Akshay was working as Director, FTI Consulting, wherein he led energy sector consulting assignments for the APAC region and worked closely with global hydrogen advocacy groups within Asia (excl. Australia). He successfully delivered multiple hydrogen consulting projects across APAC, EU & North Africa market and was part of projects involving strategic market reviews for energy majors and Fortune 500 clients. Before joining FTI, Akshay was part of the Strategy Consulting Insights (SCI) team at Shell (part of Group Strategy Consultancy & Portfolio team which directly reports to the Shell CEO) and successfully delivered consulting (strategy, transactions, policy & advocacy) projects for Shell business’ globally. Akshay has been nominated as a member of the Indian govt. led Hydrogen Mission committee, US-India Gas Task Force, a G2G initiative between Govt. of India & USA, to promote gas economy in India and Hydrogen Task Force.

Before joining Wood Mackenzie, Raj had commercial roles managing regional and strategic accounts for eight years at energy and commodities news & price provider Platts (now S&PGCI).

Carlos Barrasa has joined the Cepsa team this year as Executive Vice President of Commercial & Clean Energies, becoming part of the Management Committee. Carlos has extensive experience in the energy sector and vast international experience so will add great value to the company. Previously, he held the position of Executive President of BP in Spain for many years and Vice President of Integrated Solutions at a global level (a business dedicated to promoting the decarbonization of cities and large companies). In addition, he has widespread experience in leading the transformation and growth of businesses in the downstream area and leading global teams.

Rick Beuttel

Vice President, Hydrogen Business

Rick Beuttel is vice president of Bloom Energy’s hydrogen business. In this role, he spearheads the company’s market strategy, serves as an evangelist for emerging hydrogen solutions, and develops relationships with industry leaders to continue momentum around Bloom’s hydrogen technology. Beuttel brings over three decades of experience in business development in the energy and industrial sectors, including extensive work deploying and scaling hydrogen projects across international markets. Before joining Bloom Energy, Beuttel served as vice president of business development at Air Products, overseeing the development and execution of large-scale energy projects, largely focused on hydrogen throughout the Americas. In this role, he was responsible for the deployment of over $8 billion of capital, including world-scale hydrogen/renewable fuels/ammonia projects in Paramount, California, Eastern Louisiana, Edmonton, Alberta, the acquisition of hydrogen plants from PBF Energy, and many other projects centered around hydrogen and synthesis gas production. Beuttel also held a number of senior roles across regions during his tenure at Air Products, including business manager for generated gases in the Americas, business development manager for Latin America, and business manager for Asia tonnage focused on the semiconductor and display industries. Beuttel holds a bachelor’s degree in mechanical engineering from Stevens Institute of Technology and a Master of Business Administration from Lehigh University and is also chairman of the board of the Lehigh Valley Velodrome.

George Tilley

Hydrogen Opportunity Manager

George Tilley of Storegga is the Hydrogen Opportunity Manager responsible for the non-technical scope of the Acorn Hydrogen Project. George has a 35 year background in oil and gas commercial roles at all stages of the value chain from wellhead to burner tip. As a former BG commercial manager, he has worked in South America, India, Kazakhstan and East Africa on oil and gas ventures at various stages of the development cycle. Since leaving BG he has consulted for multiple clients, his last assignment being Commercial Manager for a junior E&P company development in West Africa before joining Storegga in late 2022. George is a Chartered Mechanical Engineer and has an MBA with Distinction from Imperial College. He is a keen yachtsman and hiker, and the less said about his golf, the better.

Sebastien Bruna

Sébastien Bruna leads the Hydrogen activities in the Refining & Chemicals Branch for TotalEnergies since 2021. In this function, several Clean H2 projects have come to fruition such as the BioH2 supply for the Grandpuits Bio-refinery and the Green H2 supply deals to the Normandy platform in France and the Leuna refinery in Germany, amongst others. Sebastien joined TotalEnergies in 1999 and since then has held various positions across TotalEnergies in different fields such as Refining Operations in France, UK & Germany and leading positions in Strategy, M&A and Business Development of large international projects. Prior to his current role, Murray led Gas and LNG Research for the EMEA region at Wood Mackenzie. In this role, he was regularly sought out to speak at industry-leading events for his expertise in European gas markets. Murray has also held positions leading Wood Mackenzie’s Global Supply and Modelling Research team and the Energy Markets Research team. These teams were responsible for developing the company’s long-term oil and gas supply outlooks, and global inter-fuel analysis. Prior to joining the Energy Markets team, Murray spent over five years covering the LNG industry, where he relocated to Houston to establish Wood Mackenzie’s LNG practice in North America. Prior to this role, Bridget consulted at Power Advocate specializing in hydrogen asset modelling, strategic sourcing and category management for energy utilities in North America. Their additional client experience has involved market research to determine savings potential, along with RFP sourcing, negotiation and execution, all within the energy industry. Before PowerAdvocate, Bridget worked within the H2Europe division of AirLiquide in Grenoble, France, overseeing optimization of H2 refueling processes. Bridget graduated from Brown University with an A.B.E.T. accredited B.S. in Environmental Engineering, pursuing the Renewable Energy track. Throughout their college education, Bridget worked on several initiatives with FirstElement Fuel, the largest H2 refueling station retail business in the US.

Gilles Decan is Policy & Project Manager Hydrogen at Port of Antwerp-Bruges and has worked his entire career in the synthetic renewable fuels sector. Before joining the Sustainable Transition team at the Port Authority, he focused on the implementation and optimalisation of e-fuels in maritime engines as a doctoral and post-doctoral fellow. By switching to the Port of Antwerp-Bruges, he remained active on hydrogen related matters, but shifted from a research-oriented approach to a more industrial point of view. Currently, from a port authority perspective, he helps realising the hydrogen transition and the positioning of Port of Antwerp-Bruges as a hydrogen hub, by focusing on market development and incentivisation, hydrogen production & export/import flows and regulatory aspects.

Before joining Wood Mackenzie, Flor led the innovation team at IDOM, working on developing low-carbon and circular economy projects for green/blue hydrogen, advanced biofuels, hydrotreated vegetable oils, plastic recycling, and carbon capture. At IDOM she also worked as a process engineer on LNG projects in Brazil, Colombia and Poland and a natural gas processing facility in Morocco. Before IDOM, Flor worked as a Health Safety & Environment engineer at Tecnicas Reunidas (TR). At TR she worked on the Al-Zour Refinery for Kuwait and a Nitric Acid plant for Yara in Norway.
