David is Head of Steel, Iron Ore and Alloys Markets at Wood Mackenzie, based in Perth, Australia. He leads our research and analysis across the global steelmaking raw materials value chain, overseeing coverage of iron ore, steel and steel alloys markets. Since joining Wood Mackenzie in 2019, David has held a number of leadership roles across the business, including Head of Short-Term Analytics and lead analyst for the firm's iron ore research.
David brings more than 20 years of experience spanning market research, trading, forecasting and risk management across bulk commodities. He is a highly experienced and multi-disciplinary market analyst with deep expertise in commodity market fundamentals, supply and demand dynamics, industry economics, asset analysis and market forecasting. His work combines rigorous fundamental research with a strong understanding of market mechanics, helping clients navigate increasingly complex and evolving commodity markets.
Before joining Wood Mackenzie, David held a range of analyst, commercial and trading roles with leading global organisations including Rio Tinto, Vale, Anglo American and Trafigura. He began his career at the International Energy Agency (IEA/OECD) in Paris, developing a strong analytical foundation in global energy and commodity markets.
