A Wood Mackenzie lens on African upstream: opportunities, competition and commercial reality

Africa is attracting upstream capital — $43 billion in capex and 31% of the world's high-impact exploration wells this year — but spending alone does not determine winners. This panel cuts through to what separates them.

It will focus on:

  • New licensing rounds, frontier discoveries and a shifting operator landscape are redrawing Africa's upstream map — which opportunities are compelling enough to convert interest into committed capital?
  • As African gas faces pre-FID barriers, FLNG unlocks new resources, and Middle East disruption reshapes the demand outlook — can Africa convert its vast gas potential into monetised reality?
  • What will it take for African upstream to compete — are host governments doing enough to make their resources investable?
  • Signposts - which projects, investments, and wells will define Africa's upstream year ahead?

We are looking forward to seeing you there!
