Wood Mackenzie, a global leader in analytics, insights and proprietary data across the energy and natural resources landscape, today hosted an exclusive event in partnership with Special Olympics Asia Pacific (SOAP), titled “Women & Girls Rising Through Sport.”
The ongoing Middle East conflict is triggering a critical supply crisis in the global aluminium market, with disruptions potentially removing 3–3.5 million tonnes (Mt) of output in 2026.
Prices anticipated to be US$600/kW by end-2027—a 195% increase since 2019 Orders to peak in 2026, as developers secure 63GW of gas capacity through 2030 Driven by increased electrification demand, especially around the expansion of data centers, the gas turbine market faces a significant market...
The 11 million b/d of upstream production currently shut-in across the Middle East can only be restored when export logistics normalise.
Middle East crude exports collapsed nearly 60% between early February and early March 2026, falling from 18.7 million barrels per day (bpd) to 5.9 million bpd as the Strait of Hormuz faced paralysis, according to Wood Mackenzie's VesselTracker. This disruption has triggered an unprecedented global energy realignment, with Europe importing record North American crude and refined products while simultaneously exporting surplus gasoline and fuel oil (FO) to Asia.
Expected national growth to be 12% in 2026; Subscriber acquisition costs decline 12% on average in 2025; community-scale solar potential exceeds 12 GW through 2030 The US community solar sector reached a historic milestone in late 2025, officially surpassing 10 gigawatts (GWdc) of cumulative na...
The world's 30 largest exploration and production companies face production declines averaging nearly 40% between 2025 and 2040. These declines are driving renewed investment in ultra-deepwater frontier exploration as countries seek supply diversification and strategic energy security, according to analysis published today by Wood Mackenzie.
The US data center electrical equipment market is projected to surge from $20 billion to $65 billion by 2030, with data centers capturing up to 40% of the total US electrical equipment market under accelerated scenarios—a dramatic rise from just under 2% in 2020.
Australia’s electricity sector is showing significantly greater resilience to global energy shocks compared to the 2022 crisis, despite escalating geopolitical tensions in Iran driving sharp increases in global fuel prices, according to Wood Mackenzie.
Southeast Asia is entering a critical second wave of deepwater gas development targeting 28 trillion cubic feet of resources across Indonesia, Malaysia and Brunei. However, delivering these projects won’t be easy. Our models suggest these projects have fragile economics, with many delivering less than 15% internal rates of return (IRR). As a result, operators face narrow margins for execution error as they race to deliver over US$20 billion of new infrastructure and supply by 2030, according to Wood Mackenzie estimates.
With natural gas dominating near-term data centre power additions, carbon capture offers the most practical path to decarbonization, according to new Wood Mackenzie analysis.
China’s domestic Electric Vehicles (EV) market has slowed to 2024 comparable-period levels as subsidy tapering, margin pressure, and weaker consumer sentiment reshape competition across the sector, according to Wood Mackenzie analysis from the 2026 Beijing Auto Show.
The race to power artificial intelligence is pushing US data centre development to break the speed limit of grid development - creating significant risk for projects, markets and consumers, according to a new Wood Mackenzie report.
In its 17th Annual Exploration Awards, Wood Mackenzie Ltd has named BP p.l.c. (bp) the year’s Most-Admired Explorer. The award is determined by the votes of exploration leaders across the industry, supported by independent quantitative analysis conducted by Wood Mackenzie Ltd.
The Australian government’s proposed Domestic Supply Obligation (DSO) framework risks increasing, rather than reducing, investment uncertainty at a critical time for the nation’s energy sector.
Nextpower ranked first in Wood Mackenzie’s Global Tracker Manufacturer Ranking 2026, as solar developers, investors and lenders place increasing emphasis on bankability, supply chain resilience and operational reliability when selecting tracker suppliers.
The global solar tracker market expanded 19% in 2025, surpassing 134 Gigawatts Direct Current (GWdc) of equipment shipments, according to Wood Mackenzie’s ‘Global solar tracker market share 2026’.
Research from Wood Mackenzie finds that the base metals required to power the global data centre boom extend far beyond the servers, cooling units, and enclosures inside the facility. When grid reinforcement, transmission networks, and facility-level power systems are included, total system-level metals consumption reaches an estimated three to four times the volume implied by the asset itself.
As Southeast Asia's fastest-growing data centre hub and one of Asia's most attractive locations for new data centre investment, Johor is rapidly emerging as a critical digital infrastructure centre. According to a new Wood Mackenzie report, data centres could account for approximately 40% of the state's total electricity demand by 2035, fundamentally reshaping power consumption patterns and increasing pressure on grid infrastructure.
The next generation of AI agents could consume between 10,000 and 40,000 times more computing power per task than today’s chatbots. That pressure is pushing some of the world’s largest technology companies to consider putting their data centres in space. A new report from Wood Mackenzie finds they face a significant cost problem to get there.
The recent European Commission decision to ban PV inverters and power-conversion systems (PCS) from China and other countries the Commission considers high risk, from all European Union (EU)-funded clean energy projects may affect around 14% of forecasted European solar PV demand from 2026 to 2030, totalling over 28 GWdc of PV inverter demand.
Asian LNG demand is heading for a second consecutive year of decline. Wood Mackenzie forecasts Asia Pacific demand at 257 Mt in 2026, down from 268 Mt in 2025 and a peak of 278 Mt in 2024, as the Middle East conflict tightens global supply and pushes spot prices to levels that are forcing buyers across the region to cut volumes, switch fuels and accelerate supply diversification.
The US wind industry is on track to connect more than 53 gigawatts (GW) of capacity through 2030, as a surge in construction activity prompts Wood Mackenzie to raise its five-year greenfield outlook by 5% quarter-on-quarter, according to the US Wind Energy Monitor Q2 2026 report released today by Wood Mackenzie.
Saudi Arabia redirected virtually all crude exports through its East-West Petroline to Yanbu on the Red Sea following the closure of the Strait of Hormuz in late February, reaching a peak of approximately 4.07 million barrels per day in March.
Wood Mackenzie’s analysis warns that European gas storage at a historically low, combined with renewed Strait of Hormuz disruption, has driven spot prices more than 50% above their June lows and placed winter 2026/27 supply security at risk.
Wood Mackenzie's mid-year upstream and corporate outlook finds the global upstream sector could accumulate a cash windfall of US$495 billion this year, assuming Brent prices average US$90 per barrel, more than double cash flow expectations based on initial planning assumptions of around US$60 per barrel.
36 GW of new data centre capacity was added to the US pipeline in Q1 2026, down 19% from Q4 2025 additions.
Wood Mackenzie forecast a turbulent, fragmented world for 2026. The first half delivered one. What it did not forecast was a Middle East conflict. This compounds the importance of the US mid-term elections as the next major policy and market milestone for 2026. What the mid-year review finds most striking is how contained the damage to metals and mining has been.
The Gulf of America (GoA) Big Beautiful Gulf 3 (BBG3) lease sale took place on 12 August 2026, the third sale under the BBG leasing program. Total bids reached US$99.5 million across 69 bids for 59 blocks, falling just short of Wood Mackenzie’s pre-sale expectations of approximately US$100–125 million. Activity levels landed between BBG2's 25 blocks and BBG1's 181, confirming the market is finding its rhythm under the new leasing cadence.
As the Middle East conflict continues to drive volatility in global oil markets, Wood Mackenzie's base case already projects EVs jumping from 4% of the global fleet today to 25% by 2040.
