Our 2020 China Energy Transition Forum is now a virtual event and is open for registration.
Covid-19 and oil price crash have sent the oil and gas sector into turmoil, with lingering effects on future market rebalancing. Amid low commodity prices and greater uncertainties, many oil and gas companies are re-assessing their portfolios. Impact of energy transition has become more apparent on the oil and gas sector even before COVID-19. Will the events of 2020 change corporate strategies and accelerate the energy transition? What are the new challenges and opportunities Chinese energy companies facing?
At the same time, we are living through a revolution in power technology as both wind and solar costs have now fallen below those of gas-fired power in Asia Pacific and are expected to become competitive with new coal power by the late 2020s. Wood Mackenzie expects $1.5 trillion to be invested in power generation in Asia Pacific in the next decade, with an incredible 2/3 going into renewables. China takes half the total.
However, there is growing uncertainty in the market as subsidies for renewables are cut and grid constraints are hit in key markets.
Join our experts and your peers 17-18 November to share views on some of the key trends and responsive options ahead.
