Kaho Yu

Principal Analyst, Energy & Asia Risk

Verisk Maplecroft Asia

ESG & political risk specialist providing advice on energy business in Asia-Pacific Dr Kaho Yu is a Principal Analyst at Verisk Maplecroft, specialising in political and ESG risk assessment for the energy business. He has a particular interest in Asia energy and climate policy, low-carbon transition, China-Russia oil and gas cooperation, Chinese energy security, energy investment in Myanmar and the Belt and Road Initiative. Prior to Maplecroft, Kaho was an associate of the Energy Geopolitics Program at Harvard Kennedy School and a lecturer at the Chinese University of Hong Kong. Kaho also holds affiliated research positions at the European Centre for Climate, Energy and Resource Security (EUCERS) at King’s College London, London Asia-Pacific Centre for Social Science and the Asian Energy Studies Centre at Hong Kong Baptist University. Kaho obtained his PhD in International Political Economy from King’s College London.

Dale Hazelton

Dale leads our Thermal Coal team, focusing on the impact of the rapidly-changing energy landscape. He joined Wood Mackenzie in 2009, initially working on the US Illinois Basin and Canada Coal Supply Services, before branching out to cover Appalachia, Powder River Basin, Western Bituminous, Latin America and Russia. He moved into his current role in 2019. Prior to joining Wood Mackenzie, Dale worked for Cleveland Cliffs at their Pinnacle and Greenridge mines, gaining first-hand experience of longwall and continuous miner operations.

Valery Chow

Val leads Wood Mackenzie’s Gas & LNG Research team in Asia Pacific. In this role, he works with a global network of experts to deliver insight into trends and disruptors impacting regional and global gas markets. From a wider perspective, his focus is on helping businesses grow and transform through the energy transition. This draws on over 15 years of international experience with strategy development, market analysis, business transformation, and project/program leadership in the energy industry. Val rejoined Wood Mackenzie in 2021 after 8 years with Shell in Singapore, London, and The Hague. During this time, he drove business transformation initiatives in Shell Energy Marketing & Trading, developed energy scenarios in Group Strategy & Portfolio, and delivered gas master planning studies in Projects & Technology. In his prior role with Wood Mackenzie, Val led consulting engagements across Asia Pacific and the Middle East, advising governments and businesses on a wide range of policy, strategy, and commercial issues. This built on his strategy consulting experience in Accenture’s Resources operating group where he worked with clients in the oil & gas, mining, and utilities industries. Val holds a PhD in economics from Monash University, Australia.

Lucy Cullen

Principal Analyst, APAC Gas & LNG

Lucy is a principal analyst in Wood Mackenzie’s Asia Pacific Gas & LNG team, primarily focused on supply, demand, contract and price analysis for the Northeast Asian markets. Lucy joined the team in Singapore in 2019, having spent over six years with Wood Mackenzie research in the UK. Lucy was part of the global gas research team in the UK with responsibility for developing European gas supply analysis. Lucy joined Wood Mackenzie in 2012 as an intern in the Energy Markets research team, producing long-term energy balances by looking at inter-fuel competition and energy demand drivers. Lucy has also worked on a number of consulting projects in the areas of gas monetisation, market entry and opportunity screenings and cost analysis in Europe, North Africa and the Caspian.

Asti Asra

Principal Analyst, APAC Gas & LNG

With strong experience in the LNG and domestic supply chain, Asti provides commercial insight into market dynamics in the APAC region. She develops Wood Mackenzie’s individual country analysis and infrastructure trends, using these insights to report on how country dynamics impact regional LNG markets. Asti joined Wood Mackenzie in 2019 after 10 years with ExxonMobil, where she was the Head of LNG Market Development and worked across the value chain for both LNG and pipeline gas.

Rishab Shrestha

Senior Research Analyst, APAC Power

Rishab is a senior analyst focused on Asia-Pacific power markets, with a particular interest in renewable market dynamics. His work includes power modeling and forecasting project economics of various generation technologies. He also leads the solar market research for the region. Before joining Wood Mackenzie, Rishab worked as a solar market analyst at GTM Research & MAKE Consulting. At MAKE, he helped the company kick start its solar research product offerings. He also has experience working with cleantech start-ups in the UK and India.

Gavin Montgomery

With over 10 years of experience in metals markets, Gavin ensures that our analysis of battery raw materials accounts for every market development. As research director for battery raw materials, Gavin defines our research agenda and guides the analysis of raw materials markets. Gavin joined Wood Mackenzie in 2011 as analyst and spent four years covering the iron ore market. He also directed our global metals markets research for three years. Prior to joining Wood Mackenzie, Gavin spent three years with CRU in London, and more recently one year with Steel Business Briefing covering the markets for finished steel and steelmaking raw materials. Before entering the metals world, Gavin spent five years living and working across various parts of East Asia for a shipping and logistics company.

Jose Brugada

Jose is a Principal Consultant in Wood Mackenzie's downstream consulting practice in Singapore. Jose has 15 years of experience in industry where he has worked across downstream and upstream. As a consultant Jose has led multiple projects for the leading Super Majors, including new market entries, commercial turnarounds, new product offerings, cost reviews, market studies, and supply chain optimization. Jose joined Wood Mackenzie from KPMG, where he previously worked as a manager in the Energy and Natural resources consulting practice, supporting the major IOCs and the financial sector with assignments related to operational cost reviews, transaction support (CDD, ODD and Vendor Assist) and electric vehicle strategies. His 10 year tenure at Shell was split between operations and consulting, 5 of these years were in Marketing & Sales roles working with B2B clients and 5 years were in Shell’s Downstream Management Consulting/Group Strategy supporting senior leadership to develop strategies for all business units. As an internal consultant he worked with Lubricants, Retail, Bitumen, Aviation, Commercial Fuels, Trading and Refining. Jose is an MBA and MSc graduate from the ESCP Europe in France, he also holds an Electronics Engineering degree from ITESM in Mexico. He is a former lecturer at the Sorbonne University in Paris where he taught a business strategy course.

Lionel Summer

Lionel’s upstream expertise lies in Malaysia, Indonesia and Brunei, with a particular focus on upstream and the energy transition. Prior to joining Wood Mackenzie, Lionel managed Bell Geospace’s Asia-Pacific operations, a geophysical data acquisition company. Lionel has a Bachelor’s degree in Geophysics and a Master’s in Business Administration.

Cindy Lim

Cindy Lim is the Chief Executive Officer of Keppel Infrastructure. In her 20 years with Keppel, Ms Lim has held various leadership positions. She was the Director of Group Corporate Development (GCD) of Keppel Corporation Limited and concurrently the Managing Director of Keppel Urban Solutions (KUS), an end-to-end integrated master developer of liveable, smart and sustainable precincts and townships in the Asia-Pacific region. As the Director of GCD, she focused on harnessing collaboration and synergies across the Business units and functions within the Keppel Group. As the Managing Director of KUS, she led the unit to capture business opportunities, tapping on the mega trends of rapid urbanisation and the increasing global focus on sustainability. Prior to these, Ms Lim was the Executive Director of Infrastructure Services in Keppel Infrastructure, where she stewarded the business by driving plants efficiency and reliability, health, safety & environment (HSE) performance and developing procurement strategies. She has diverse experience in operation and process excellence as well as people and organisation management. Ms Lim holds a Bachelor of Engineering (Mechanical & Production) (Second Upper Honours) from Nanyang Technological University and an Executive MBA from the Singapore Management University.

Daphne Ho

Daphne currently covers the short-term oils and refining research in Asia. She joined the Chemical Research team of Wood Mackenzie in 2017, focusing on short-term and long term benzene and derivative markets for more than 3 years. Prior to Wood Mackenzie, Daphne spent 4 years with ICIS as a markets editor covering the benzene, caprolactam and nylon markets. She was responsible for price discovery and benchmarks, along with publishing and reporting on market insights and trend developments. Daphne graduated from University at Buffalo, The State University of New York with a Bachelor’s degree in Business.

Nick Halkas

Nick has more than 25 years experience in banking and finance globally including a strong trade and deep commodity finance background, with extensive relationship and structured finance experience, working with clients across Resources, Energy and Infrastructure sectors in multiple top tier banks. Before joining SMBC, Nick was Head of Infrastructure, Export & Sustainable Finance, International at Australia and New Zealand Bank based in Singapore. Prior to this role Nick was Head of Resources, Energy & Infrastructure, South East Asia, India & Middle East responsible for leading ANZ's business and strategy internationally in these sectors. Nick has held various other leadership and industry specialist roles in ANZ, Standard Bank & Fortis Bank with a focus on Natural Resources. He was also Global Head of Oil & Gas, Mining and Chemicals at MIGA (World Bank).

Prakash Sharma

Prakash has over 26 years’ experience in energy, metals & mining and climate change policy developments. His expertise ranges from operational management to commodity trading and business strategy. Prakash joined Wood Mackenzie in 2006 and is currently based in Singapore. He leads integrated analysis, energy transition and cross-commodity discussions in Asia Pacific. He has presented to board and senior-level management teams, as well as at major industry conferences. Previously, Prakash spent two years in Beijing as head of China research guiding a team of analysts on China’s energy and economic trends, including supply-side reforms, inter-fuel competition and commodity prices. He has also led global coal markets analysis for five years delivering research on decarbonisation policies, impact of renewables, alternative scenarios and evolving patterns of supply and demand. Prakash’s extensive experience in the commodity sector includes export of steel-making raw materials (metallurgical coal, iron ore and scrap) and energy coal to China for an established Canadian trading firm. He has also spent nine years in the mining industry specialising in technical services, international sourcing and ISO 9001 certification.

Jasmine Choo

Jasmine is the Chief Operating Officer of Cleantech Solar, a leading C&I solar developer across India and Southeast Asia. Cleantech Solar invests, owns and operates solar PV projects; serving top corporates in the Commercial and Industrial sector by delivering best-in-class solar solutions to support both their cost and environmental ambitions. As its COO, Jasmine provides the day-to-day leadership to support Cleantech’s continued success and rapid growth. Jasmine has worked both in industry and consulting across Europe, Africa, Asia and Australia, primarily focused on the energy sector. Prior to this role, Jasmine led acquisition and JV formation for Shell in renewables across Asia and Australia. She first joined Shell in London, then spent a number of years in consulting with Bain & Co. Jasmine rejoined Shell in 2015 in Singapore, first in the LNG business before moving into the renewables space.
