Wood Mackenzie's Ed Crooks, Americas Vice Chair and author of the Energy Pulse weekly column, will be speaking at the Canadian Crude Oil Conference on Friday, September 16 to discuss Energy Transition Signposts.
The energy crisis that has hit the world in the past year has forced consumers to face some difficult truths about their dependence on fossil fuels. For many years, a period of relative abundance in oil and gas supplies lulled consumers and policymakers into complacency. Energy security and affordability were neglected as climate change and the need to transition away from high-carbon fuels became the dominant concern. The disruptions to supplies and surging prices that have followed Russia’s invasion of Ukraine have been an abrupt reality check: a reminder that adequate oil and gas supplies can never be taken for granted.
The good news in the crisis is that it has forced a widespread reassessment of how the transition to lower-carbon energy should proceed. New policies and strategies are emerging that are better aligned to the fundamental realities of global energy supply and demand.
During his session, Ed will discuss how this new thinking is taking shape, and what it means for the future of the industry.
