The challenge

An international oil & gas company was looking to understand the phasing out of electricity subsidies in order to understand the timeline and estimated impact in terms of power prices and potential restructuring of three different power markets.

The solution

Each of the three markets was investigated in separate projects, although the structure and scope were similar. To give the client an exhaustive overview and outlook of the markets, the scope was divided into two key areas:

  • Electricity market structure including legal and regulatory overview, key power market players and expected changes, T&D market developments, subsidies structures and forecasted developments, and more.
  • Cost and pricing analysis including macroeconomic assumptions, power demand forecast by sector, evolution of generation mix and LCOE, and power price forecasts out to 2040

The results

Based on the delivered model and analyses, the client was able to make an assessment of the long-term viability of operational gas-to-power assets and the feasibility of commercial and industrial solar.
