The top 15 developers in the region accounted for 5.1 GW of operational solar capacity at the end of 2019. The average capacity among the top developers amounts to 341 MW. The top three developers in Southeast Asia are Super Energy, B.Grimm and AC Energy, respectively.

Regional players are diversifying into neighbouring markets and international players are aggressively expanding in the region. Most of the top players are regional players, mainly from Thailand and Vietnam. Scatec Solar is the only global player in the rankings. But this could change. International developers in partnership with local developers won 81% of the capacity allocated in Malaysia’s third solar auction.

The Philippines is the most consolidated market among Thailand, Vietnam, the Philippines and Malaysia. The top 10 developers in the Philippines account for 77% of the operational solar capacity. Among the four countries, Vietnam is the least consolidated, with the top 10 accounting for 54% of the operational projects. For the entire Southeast Asian region, the top 15 developers account for 43% of the operating capacity.
