I had the honour of seeing first hand how SIBUR is moving closer towards successful operation of its flagship steam cracker/polyolefins project in Tobolsk, Russia. Both mechanical completion and pre-commissioning activities have ended and commissioning activities are underway. The project centres around a 1.5 million tons per year gas-based ethylene asset, underpinning 2 million tons of polyolefins (1.5 Mt PE and 0.5 Mt PP). Once completed, the ethylene plant will be the largest in Greater Europe and the combined light olefins output will make the steam cracker complex one of the largest globally. For further insight on ethylene assets around the world, navigate to the ethylene asset cost tool - The ethylene asset cost tool enables the user to view detailed asset level commercial information on the ethylene industry. It combines Wood Mackenzie's leading analysis from NGL, refining, coal and chemical services.
