January US ethylene spot prices have averaged near 18.7c/lb. a decrease from the 20 c/lb seen through 4Q18. New derivative demand from Sasol's polyethylene, LACC’s ethylene oxide, and Shell's alpha olefins units are helping hold up ethylene margins for another month. Turnaround season has ended as we move into the new year, but our supply outlook has decreased on cracker startup delays. We expect more economic run cuts in 2H19 as 3 million tons of new ethylene capacity comes online this year.
