Propylene prices rose in July on expectations of increasing demand and an unexpected PDH turnaround. By end month, prices had lightly reduced from mid-month highs on stabilizing PDH operations and increasing supply from the returning BASF cracker and metathesis complex. The price outlook appears stable for the next few months as inventories continue to fall from all-time highs. A lowered LPG price outlook means more coproduct propylene production is expected through the beginning of Q4 2019. Wood Mackenzie expects inventories to continue to provide a buffer for prices through the end of 2019.
