This report is currently unavailable
Report summary
Tropical storm Imelda and turnarounds at LyondellBasell and Braskem slowed the regional polypropylene production. YTD August 2019 domestic demand was down slightly at .6% below the same period for 2018. YTD August 2019 domestic end-use demand showed a drop in injection moulding, film, and sheet applications, respectively when compared to 2018. Also, the automotive sector’s sales were down 1.1% from July to August. However, signs of demand improvement were present in September with month to month North American domestic demand up by 1.7% from July to its highest point in 2019. Production is expected to continue to be slow as the summer season ends with turnarounds expected from LyondellBasell’s Bayport facility and Braskem’s La Porte facility to continue well into October.
