On October 10, Wood Mackenzie published a report on the US spot ethylene market after a record price rally up to 76 cents per pound which resulted in demand destruction and extreme backwardation in the forward curve. Over the next four weeks, spot ethylene prices have collapsed and traded as low as 49 cents per pound which is a 35% decrease. How did this happen?
