On 12th October China implemented a ban on the clearing or discharging of Australian coal. Since then Australian exports to China plummeted from between 6-12 Mt per month to under a million tonnes in November and effectively zero since December. However, overall Australian exports have staged a recovery. December metallurgical coal volumes increased 14% month-on-month while thermal jumped by 25%.
