The poor performance of railroads in shipping coal and other commodities over the last few months has been under the scanner by major industry participants.  Together with one of the coldest and snowiest winters on record – freezing tracks, slowing rail velocity – railroads have had to contend with a record 2013/2014 grain harvest and higher demand across multiple commodities.
