Commodity Market Report
Coal markets - North America short-term outlook - July 2021
Report summary
The warmer-than-average summer not only arrived early, but it is rambling on, as natural gas prices have crested the $4/mmbtu range and are threatening to move higher. As forecasted, demand for coal generation is ramping up, but supply remains mostly unable to respond. Domestic coal prices have risen by 10% on average for the second month in a row, pushing markets up through the top of last month’s high scenario.
