Commodity Market Report
Coal markets - North America short-term outlook - September 2021
Report summary
The shoulder season may have arrived, but the song has remained the same for coal-fired power generation. Both coal and gas price continued their upward momentum in September as a still a general lack of supply response kept the market extremely tight. Although this price spike is behind us and October weather forecasts appear mild, sluggish production rates may largely support – or increase – these already-elevated coal and gas prices over the next six months.
