Energy Department examines using emergency authority to save coal and nuclear EGUs
This report is currently unavailable
Report summary
The US Department of Energy appears poised to invoke its regulatory authority to keep certain power plants from closing down. The DOE would require grid operators to purchase energy and capacity from EGUs that have significant onsite fuel storage capabilities. While the exact list of EGUs subject to this authority is not yet definite, it appears it would include EGUs anywhere within the grid – unlike previous propositions that were limited to FERC jurisdictional EGUs only.
