Makhado will be South Africa's first hard coking coal exporting mine to be developed in South Africa. The project is located 35 kilometres north of the town of Makhado in the Limpopo province and represents MCMining's most advanced project in the Soutpansberg Coalfield. The mine covers five farms originally owned and explored by Iscor (now Arcelor Mittal Steel South Africa): Fripp 645 MS, Lukin 643 MS, Salaita 188 MT, Tanga 648 MS and Windhoek 649 MS.
