Australian PLV prices softened over the past fortnight as improving Chinese coking coal supply and seasonally weaker steel demand reduced China's seaborne import requirements. However, the market continues to be supported by constrained Mongolian inflows and post-monsoon restocking in India. Persistent logistics disruptions in Russia and weather-related export constraints in Indonesia are providing additional support, particularly for PCI markets. While rising Australian exports are keeping overall seaborne supply relatively comfortable, supply conditions remain tighter in PCI than PHCC markets. We expect PLV prices to ease further through Q4, although ongoing supply constraints outside Australia and resilient demand for premium coals should help limit downside pressure.
