Metallurgical coal outlook under steel’s accelerated transition 1.5 degree scenario - 2022

We have explored an alternative scenario, beyond our base case, whereby the world follows a 1.5-degree warming pathway. This scenario, published by Wood Mackenzie’s Energy Transition team, identifies what actions must be taken to reduce emissions and achieve the target warming temperature across industries. Updated for 2022, this scenario requires an immediate, sharp fall in total and seaborne metallurgical coal consumption. Following the scenario's steep demand decline trajectory, metallurgical coal markets are fundamentally altered.
