North America coal short-term outlook October 2019: Murray files for bankruptcy
Report summary
On 29 October 2019, Murray Energy Holdings Corporation ("Murray") and several subsidiaries filed for Chapter 11 bankruptcy. Murray is the 5th largest coal producer in the US and the largest private producer. Its operations range from the Illinois Basin, Southern Appalachia basin, Northern Appalachia basin, Utah and international holdings in Colombia. In addition, Murray owns interests in Foresight Energy, an ILB producer and Javelin Global Commodities, an international coal sales and marketing company. Neither of which were apart of the filing.
