Peak Downs is a large metallurgical coal mine, located 30 kilometres south of the town of Moranbah, in Queensland’s Bowen Basin. The mine lies within the mining lease ML 1775 (Saraji and the Caval Ridge lie within the same lease), 1783 (Peak Downs mine industrial area), 1885 (Harrow Creek extended) and MDL 321 (Peak Downs East).It produces a very high quality hard coking coal, which forms the basis for benchmark contract negotiations with Japanese steel mills.
