PRB coal production is forecast to fall 20 Mst to 208 Mst in 2026 as structural headwinds intensify. Low-cost natural gas, advancing renewables, coal plant retirements, and ESG pressures continue eroding demand, while large stockpiles suppress new orders. Peabody and Core Natural Resources together account for 60% of basin output, with the four largest producers controlling nearly 90%. Exports are expected at 12.5 Mst, led by NTEC's Spring Creek and Signal Peak's Bull Mountain. Near-term support from data centre load growth and Trump administration policy actions may slow the decline, but PRB production is not expected to recover to pre-2020 levels.
