Seaborne thermal coal battling Chinese import restrictions
This report is currently unavailable
Report summary
The coal market is rife with rumours about China tightening restrictions on thermal coal imports. There are fears there could be a country wide ban on all imports from 15 November to the end of the year. Though not backed up by any official announcement from the state, it is thought that the Chinese Customs and NDRC are in discussions with power generating companies (gencos) in coal importing provinces about how to limit overall Chinese coal imports to 2017 levels.
