Westmoreland - Powder River Basin coal mines

Report summary

Westmoreland is the sixth largest PRB coal producer with less than 4% of the production in this basin. Among the 12 mines it controls in North America, Westmoreland operates two surface mines in the Montana portion of the Powder River Basin: Rosebud and Absaloka. Rosebud primarily serves the adjacent Colstrip power plant while the Absaloka mine sells into a broader market that includes power plants in the US Midwest and Northern Prairie states.
