European gas storage fill in 2018 - Record injections supported by the market, regulatory signals
This report is currently unavailable
Report summary
The end of October represents the end of the traditional fill season for European gas storage. The aggregate inventory in place for 2018 stood at 89 bcm, marginally above the 5 year average. Given that inventory was at a historic low of 20 bcm at the end of March, this represents a record 69 bcm of injections during the summer, 4 bcm higher than 2017. The loss of supply and flexibility formerly offered by Groningen in the Netherlands has helped to support this strong trend in storage fill, however low seasonal hub price spreads between summer 2018 and winter 2018/19 still persist.
