Gas commercialization in Brazil: an $11 billion opportunity emerges
Report summary
After more than two years that the ‘Gas to Growth’ initiative to increase competition in the Brazilian gas market started, the government has achieved modest progress as the 'New Gas Law' has not been issued yet in the Congress and should be postponed to next year due to presidential elections in October, 2018. Nevertheless, in August 2018, twelve local distribution companies (LDCs) of Northeast, Centre-West and South of Brazil issued a call for proposals to procure gas after starting 2020. Summed volumes requested by this call represent 1/4 of total Brazil gas demand. In this insight, we analyse this 32.9 bcm gas commercialization opportunity and identify the regulatory challenges to overcome.
