Commodity Market Report
LNG short-term trade and price outlook (Q2 2022)
Report summary
Prices: European gas prices continue to trend downwards to $27/mmbtu (25 May) as abundant piped gas and LNG imports are forced into storage and gas-to-coal switching (with ARA thermal coal still above $300/ton) required to balance the internal gas market. Lack of cargo slots at NWE LNG terminals allowed large LNG-on-water price discounts to continue through May, only in the last days narrowing to $2.5/mmbtu. Weak China LNG demand has resulted in a long Asian balance, forcing price parity to Atlantic LNG.
