On 14 June 2024 Equitrans Midstream’s 2 bcfd, 303-mile-long Mountain Valley Pipeline (MVP) came online, flowing gas from Wetzel County, West Virginia to Transco’s compressor station 165 in Pittsylvania County, Virginia. MVP’s start-up marked the end of a decade-long saga which saw significant opposition from environmental and other groups, delaying the pipeline nearly six years and doubling costs from original estimates to US$7.85 billion. However, MVP’s long-awaited start up is just the beginning for the still-pipeline constrained Northeast region. What’s next?
