North America gas weekly update: Peak heat upcoming
Report summary
Heat wave inbound! After a brief cool down, forecasts for the current week and the next are projected to be the hottest this summer. Thankfully for gas bears, higher wind utilization is occurring along with higher coal burns in the power sector. Can this backing out of coal-to-gas displacement continue for long, though? Low coal stockpiles could signal the inability of coal plants to respond if heat persists. And once peak power demand passes, can production truly increase injections in advance of the winter?
